GRINSPOON- DAY ON THE LAWN FESTIVAL- HOBART - ANNOUNCED

Day on the Lawn returns in 2021 with an all star line up. Bridging the gap left in the event calendar this summer by bringing some of Australia’s best live acts down south. This year Lawners can enjoy Grinspoon, Ocean Alley, Angie McMahon, Kota Banks, Coolio, Bootleg Rascal and local support.

Grinspoon, undoubtedly one of Australia's most iconic rock bands will come to Hobart for the 5th  edition of Day on the Lawn. “Were beyond excited to be coming back to Hobart to play this absolutely ripper festival. See you soon!” - Phil Jamieson Grinspoon’s debut single Sickfest’ won triple j’s first national Unearthed competition and for 7 weeks it was the station’s most requested track. After this thundering start, the band released 7 albums, had 13 ARIA nominations, sold over half a million records and played 400 live shows. With classics such as ‘Chemical Heart’, ‘Hard Act to Follow’ and ‘Just Ace’, Grinspoon is a juggernaut- a much loved master class of indie rock history!

Northern Beaches natives Ocean Alley introduced Australia and the rest of the world to their unique sounds of vintage surf, psych rock, and blues. Their hit ‘Confidence’ still holds a place in Australia’s musical heart after being voted #1 in Triple j’s hottest 100 in 2018. Last June the band released their critically acclaimed third LP Lonely Diamond. The album brings instant classics such as Tombstone  and Infinity.

NME Australia and Rolling Stone Australia have praised it "a rich, expansive universe brimming with a kind of electricity that'll make for huge on-stage moments" and "theyve managed to set a new standard for what  their music can be" respectively.

We are super stoked to be heading back to Tassie to play Day On The Lawn in March next year. Hobart is a beautiful city backdrop for live music, nestled between Mt Wellington and the Derwent river, and we'll be joining Grinspoon and Angie McMahon there for an awesome day of live music.” - Ocean Alley

With candid, relatable lyrics and a guitar-driven sound, Angie McMahon combines elements of folk and indie rock. In 2013 she decided to pursue her solo career and kicked it off by opening for Bon Jovi on his Australian leg of the Because We Can Tour. Her debut album ‘Salt was released in July 2019 and peaked at #5 on the ARIA Charts. In 2020 the album won her an ARIA for the Best Independent Rock Album.

With her infectious melodies, clever tongue-in-cheek lyricism, fresh beats and a big dose of confidence, it’s not hard to see why Australian/Italian singer Kota Banks has captured the world's attention. Her colab with MOZA ‘Empty Streets’  boasts 20 million streams on Spotify, and her more recently she has released her EP ‘Sweet and Spice’. Banks completed the Spilt Milk Australian tour last year, alongside the likes of Khalid, CHVRCHES and Tones and I.

With over 17 million records sold worldwide, Grammy award-winning and multi-platinum recording artist Coolio is an American rapper, most famously known for his legendary hit single ‘Gangstas Paradise. It became one of the most successful rap songs of all time. The  track won him a Grammy Award, an American Music Award and 2 MTV Music Awards. He played a role in making hip-hop the mainstream pop music of choice for a new generation.

Bringing the funk to the Gardens is eclectic duo Bootleg Rascal. Long-time collaborators and friends Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young mix  reggae, hip hop, dub, indie-rock and electronica, and are influenced by the likes of Kid Cudi, Gorillaz and Massive Attack.

Come along on Saturday March 20, 2021 to feel the grass between your toes and the Tassie sunshine, whilst you enjoy some of Australia’s best live music. With the stunning beautiful Gardens as a backdrop, Day on the Lawn is the perfect event to catch up with friends and family.
